ITANAGAR, Jul 14: Arunachal Olympic Association (AOA) has vehemently condemned the act of vandalism at Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs office at Chimpu near here.

City police nabs extortionists
ITANAGAR, Jul 14: In a major breakthrough, Itanagar Police today arrested two extortionists from Dimapur who were involved in serving extortion demands through Mobiles to many people of Itanagar area including some politicians. The arrested persons have been identified as Morda Basumatary, 25 and Jonah @ Rajen Narzary, 26. Both Basumatary and Narzary are the residents of Fungvila Village, under Sonitpur district, Assam, according to police sources. Earlier yesterday the Capital police arrested one Preminee Narzary, 30 of Thaigenbari, Sonitpur district, Assam from Chandranagar area here which led to the arrest of other two extortionists today.

Candlelight march seeks justice for all oppressed women

SEPPA, Jul 14: Thousands of people from all walks of life, including students, house wives, business community, NGOs, government officials took out a candlelight peace procession at Seppa Saturday seeking justice and eternal peace of toddler who was brutally raped and murdered at Bhalukpong on July 2 last. With angst and somber mood, the protesters began its peace march from police station around 6.30 pm, and it passed through Bazar Line and Circuit house, later culminated at General Ground around 8.30 pm.
“Such crime to an infant is beyond imagination and culprit must be hanged till death” said a protester.
Being organized by the Langdo, Rangmo, Welly, Wange and Weyo Youths Association, the candlelight march was also a symbolical protest against the crime against women across the state. The association further demanded capital punishment to the culprit and urged the law enforcing agency to consider it as rarest of the rare case.
It appealed to the chief minister to ensure the culprit must be chargesheeted within three months, so that dreaded rapist and murderer have fear for law. The Association further said as an aggrieved family it has full faith on judiciary and law and hoped that culprit must be punished as per the established law of land.
Later protesters observed two minutes silences as mark of respect to the soul of infant and other victims of rape and murder across the state.
Suspected woman drug peddler arrested, opium seized

ROING, Jul 14: A 34-
Handuru Mena, was arrested at her residence in Cheta by a police team led by Sub Inspector P Nikong and 6.5 gm of opium recovered from her.
Police acted after receiving information from an arrested drug addict Bindodso Bellai, 22. The addict was picked up by police from his rented room in Cheta, after a complaint was received from the house owner.
Apparently, the rented house was a meeting point for drug addicts, and was causing a ‘nuisance’ in the neighbourhood, which prompted the house owner to seek help of police.
Mena has been charged under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985/ 34 IPC.
The arrest of suspected drug peddler is a big catch for Roing police after several failed attempts. In an earlier attempt, police had held two women drug peddler from outskirts of Roing town. But they were release for lack of evidence.
The arrest has received applause from several civil society organizations. In a letter addressed to Deputy Commissioner, Roing Enjalu Menda Women’s Empowerment Forum (EMWEF) has demanded that arrested person be dealt with strict action.
They have demanded that any person arrested on charges of drug trade must be kept in custody for atleast a month, so that it acts as deterrent.
“The arrested peddler was approached several times to stop trading on opium,” EMWEF informed in its letter. “The suspect’s photo was also put on display in a poster campaign along with three other main drug peddlers. Even then, such public humiliation had proved useless.”
Informing about the extent of damage these drug peddlers had caused to the society, the women’s group said that Cheta village has now become the hotspot of drug addiction with victims mainly from underage population. “Besides opium, brown sugar and all sorts of addictive substance have already made inroads.”
Talking to this correspondent later, an EMWEF member said their worst fear has already begun. “In last panchayat election, we have information that opium was traded for votes. In such scenario, these drug traders and addicts will start to get political patronage. Then nothing can stop our society from disintegrating.”
Mystery surrounds death of a school boy
ITANGAR, Jul 14: Gyamar Tagi, a class VI student of Govt Middle School, Mani has died under mysterious circumstances. The student who left the school hostel for home after he fell sick on July 4, never reached his home again. His body was reportedly recovered by Assam Police from Dikrong Sapori, near Dori Gaon, Assam on July 6 last with multiple injuries. This was informed by the Gyamar Welfare Society (GWS) in a release today.
The Society has demanded the authority concerned to launch a thorough investigation into the mysterious death of the student. The deceased Gyamar Tagi, who left the school hostel for home after he fell sick on July 4, never reached his home again, the Society informed.

Describing the recovery of dead body of the student at Dikrong Sapori as unfortunate, the ANSU blamed the school authority for the same. At the same time ANSU also requested the victim’s family to remain calm and let law to take its own course of action.

It has been informed that high fertility rate in developing countries are prime factor for excessive population growth in worldwide. In the end of this July, the number of world population will touch 720 crores .Within 2050, the middle part of the millennium the population figure may be double of present number in less developed countries. On the contrary, the population figure would be unchanged in developed countries. It may be raised to 128 crores from 125 crores in present millennium. World population prospectus has been decoded that the havoc population growth during the period of 2013 to 2100 years may be taken place in nine countries mainly. These are Nigeria, India, Tanzania, DR Congo, Niser, Uganda, Ethiopia, USA and Bangladesh. In 2050 world population figure may touch 960 crores. There is a child born in India every one and half seconds.India is supplementing every 10 years a number of human heads more than double of the UK or equal to entire population of Pakistan or Australia, or more than half the population of USA. We have to find 12 to 13 million mouths every year. India’s share of world population is likely 18% but has hardly 2% of the world land. Herein lies the disparity between resource and population growth.

Foundation stones of community building, girls’ hostel laid
ITANAGAR, Jul 14: T Norbu Thongdok, MLA and Principal Advisor to CM cum Parliamentary Secretary for PWD began his developmental tour program to Rupa, West Kameng district yesterday.
He laid the foundation stone of Community Building of nine clans at Rupa (Kamcha) yesterday and expressed the hoped that the building will serve as a hall/centre for the entire community to celebrate their festivals and other days of great significance.
He also laid the foundation stone of a Girls Hostel for Rajendra Ashram Rupa with accommodation capacity of 50.

ADU for speedy trial of all criminal cases
ITANAGAR, Jul 14: Arunachal Development Union (ADU) has decided to file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) soon in the Gauhati High Court for directing the State Government for speedy trials and prosecutions of both civil and criminal cases pending in various courts for the last 30 years.
“The union feels that due to non disposal and conviction, particularly of the criminal cases, many hardcore criminals are roaming scot free after committing heinous crime like murder, rape, dacoit, extortion, etc.” the Society said in a release.
“Such unchecked criminal activities can not only disturb peace and tranquility of a society but it also set bad examples for the younger generation,” the society said while citing example of Tongam Rina shooting case, brutal murder of an engineering student at Bank Tinali and rape and murder of 3 year old girl at Bhalukpong that shocked the entire state.
“Arunachal will become crime and criminal free state in the country if the criminals are put behind the bars by judiciary by means of speedy trial of all pending cases against them.”
Demanding early separation of judiciary from executive, the union hoped that the state govt. will fulfill its constitutional obligation by separating judiciary from executive as mandated by article 50 of constitution of India.
The union also demanded the State Government to come out with white paper on alleged illegal appointments in various Govt departments and issue directives to the respective departments to terminate those illegal appointees within six months.
As per RTI Documents, more than 2000 illegal appointments has been made in various govt. departments right from group D to B officers in the last five years. All the appointments were made without following the due process of the rules for appointment and by passing the constitutional scheme in public employment it is also to state if any appointment, whether temporary or regular or otherwise, is made without any advertisement and without considering the claims of other eligible candidates, the same is illegal being violative of article 16 of the constitution of India, the release alleged.
The Union also demanded that State Government should direct all head of the departments to host the name of all employees of their respective departments in the official websites of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, in order to avoid RTI applications on such matters.
This was made clear by Guwahati high court referring to the judgment of Supreme Court of India in state of Karnataka vs. Uma Devi(3), (2006) 4 SCC1, while giving a judgment in PIL no 33/2012, particularly illegal appointment in the department of tax and excise.
Therefore the union asks the state govt. to constitute an enquiry committee headed by a retired judge of high court to investigate the matter and if found illegal all the appointee must be terminated within six months.

Through your esteemed column could like to lay down few points in regards to bandh culture. Please examined yourself before you are going to issue a bandh call? Are you are really fighting for community or society? Dear my young friends of Arunachal Pradesh, your demand may right but your method to fight for justice is wrong. The daily wage earners are suffering most among all. My question is do you think bandh is the only way to fight agaist the government. Likabali’s woe
Dear Editor,
I want to bring to the notice of concerned authorities by highlighting the fact that in my area Likabali, road condition has become so bad that potholes some as big as 5 feet wide can be found along full stretch of the road. This condition has put most of the residents in difficulty since not only they can damage our vehicles but also put lives of people at risk due to frequent accidents. It is surprising that such huge pothole which can at times cause major accident is not repaired by the responsible authorities.
Right from our school days we have been taught that “as a driver” we need to obey the road signal signs as they control our speed limit. But come here in Likabali or any corner of Arunachal, ‘Potholes’ does that job.
Even when the government changes at times, the road conditions remain the same. In any attractive city, it is the nice streets, beautiful parks, and family activities that draw you in. I have never visited a place and said, “Wow, I really want to live here, because the streets are horrible, the schools are broke and there are no public spaces.” I would seriously like to request the authorities to check for themselves.
For how long will we dodge pot holes and bumps in the roads? The possible act to
repair the potholes by the officials is really pathetic. The fundamentals of road
engineering are not being followed for repairs of potholes which are disastrous and
prone to accidents. Everything for repairs are being done in most careless manners,
may be by the contractor, and not at all supervised by technically qualified staff.
As I have seen the ordinary workers fill up the potholes without being directed for
the reliable procedure for repairs. No wonder that the repairs are unsuccessful.
Then regarding repairs of paving block’s road repairs, nobody bothers for it. Moreover,
we must be shameful to announce our inability to maintain the well-
Gone are the days when authorities could blame the monsoon and get away with it. The situation now is terrible year round. I am astounded that such a pitiful condition of roads still does not evoke any remedial action from the powers that be. Ordinary citizens are left to suffer. Perhaps shame is too much for us to expect from them and too trivial for them to even feel.
Through the columns of your esteemed daily, I sincerely hope that the matter will be looked into on priority and some action for improvement of the road will be taken.

Install high mast light at police colony
Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily I would like to remind concern authorities for installation of a high mast light at appropriate place in police colony. Since there are no streets lights in police colony it is not safe. It is very necessary to install atleast one high mast light to counter mischievous activities at night. So therefore we request capital administration and power department to take immediate step and necessary action for the welfare of the man in uniform. Last but not the least we have high expectation from Deputy Commissioner Capital, Sanjay Goel in this regard.

Food insecurity
Global cereal production is expected to increase by 7 per cent in 2013 compared to last year, the United Nations food agency said, but warned that in spite of a boost in supply, various regions including Central Africa, West Africa and Syria are still affected by food insecurity.
In its crop prospects and food situation report , the Food and Agriculture Organization forecasts that cereal production this year will reach 2,479 million tonnes, a new record level.
Wheat, coarse grains and rice production are all expected to expand, which will help replenish global supplies of cereal and stabilize markets over the next year, the report says.
However, the report warns that many developing countries are still affected by food insecurity. In particular, the report focuses on various countries where conflict is preventing the population from satisfying their food needs.
In Syria, wheat production dropped significantly this year due to the escalating conflict in the country. The livestock sector has also been severely affected, and the report estimates that some 4 million people are facing severe food insecurity.
In Egypt, civil unrest and dwindling foreign exchange reserves are also raising serious food security concerns.
Conflict has also affected food security in the Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

is favourable in most parts of the region, the report said, due to an above-
In East Africa, serious concerns remain in conflict areas in Somalia, the Sudan, and South Sudan, with 1 million, 4.3 million and 1.2 million food insecure people, respectively.
In total, there are 34 countries requiring external food assistance, of which 27 countries are in Africa.
